Josh Hammer, a native of Sacramento, CA, embarked on his baseball journey at a young age, setting the stage for a lifelong passion for the sport. His coaching experience spans Division I, Division II, Junior College, and High School levels. His passion is educating ballplayers and creating complete athletes, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to maximize their full potential.
As a Player
Josh was a scholar-athlete who honed his skills and love for baseball during his college career at Holy Names University, where he graduated in 2016, competing at the NCAA Division II level. During his time there, he earned perpetual awards such as the Josh Hammer Captain Hawk Award. His school even renamed their mascot to Hammer the Hawk in his honor, highlighting his impact and leadership.
As a Coach
Since 2016, Josh transitioned into the world of baseball coaching and training, demonstrating a relentless commitment to player development. He earned certification in Driveline Baseball's progressive training methodologies, underlining his dedication to nurturing talent.
From 2016 to 2019, Josh trained college baseball athletes privately while working as a graduate student in Admissions and Athletics.
From 2019 to 2022, Josh took on the role of Varsity Baseball Coach at St. Joseph Notre Dame High School in Alameda, CA. Under the guidance of Bay Area coach Mark Castillo, the team achieved a BCL League Section title appearance.
In 2021, he spent the summer as a pitching coach for the Healdsburg Prune Packers, working alongside Joey Gomes, a distinguished hitting instructor and former professional baseball player, and Max Shupe, a former assistant coach at Saint Mary's College in Moraga, CA, and Sonoma State University.
Here and Now
Josh has several years of experience in public and parochial education and now uses his teaching prowess to keep his players engaged. His background in education, multimedia, and communications helps him use baseball as the main vehicle to grow the game. His methodologies and coaching style have been known to bring an incredible amount of team spirit and extensive knowledge. He is currently putting all of that to good use as a YouTube show host and as the Director of Communications & Recruiting Coordinator with Trosky Academy, ensuring that his training methods are among the best in the industry.
